Festive Hall of the Austrian Academy of Sciences - Picture ÖAW

Conference Venue

The conference takes place at the main building of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, ÖAW). This building was erected from 1753 to 1755 as a new auditorium of the university. Its dominant facade had the goal to compete against the University Church located just beside as a symbol of the decreasing influence of the clergy on the university. Impressive paintings in the festive hall emphasize the unity of the scientific disciplines. About hundred years later the building was assigned to the Imperial Academy of Sciences - now the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
