*** FORTH PUBLICATIONS *** This is only a partial list of book summaries. STARTING FORTH by Leo Brodie Prentice-Hall 1981 This is probably the best book for beginners. It starts with the simplest examples and then continues to cover fixed point vs floating pt, how forth works, and extending the compiler with CREATE DOES>. Includes tips and plenty of examples. Unfortunately the examples sometime contain words that don't adhere to one of the standards but these are usually pointed out. Also, some people don't care for the cartoon examples. THINKING FORTH A Language and Philosophy for Solving Problems by Leo Brodie Prentice-Hall 1984 Demonstrates how to write better Forth. Full of examples. Interviews with several experienced Forth programmers show how they use it for real life problems and how they differ in their approach. Highly recommended to those beyond the beginner stage. FORTH TOOLS AND APPLICATIONS by Gary Feierbach and Paul Thomas Reston Publishing Company, Inc. (A Prentice-Hall Company) 1985 Forth words, utilities, and programs useful for debugging, searching, sorting, etc. Also steps through their approach and how they create these utilities. Good addition to any Forth library. Examples are in 79-Standard dialect BYTE Reprints ( Avail. from FIG and probably Mountain View ) 11 articles from past issues of BYTE magazine. Most of these are from the August 1980 issue. Includes introductions to Forth, explanations, history, and examples. Also, 'breakout' game written in Forth. FIG also has back issues of DR.
