The Technische Universität Wien is located in the centre of Vienna at Karlsplatz, a junction of public transportation. The university can be reached by underground line U1, U2 and U4 (station Karlsplatz, U1 also station Taubstummengasse) and the tram lines 62 and 65 (Station Paulanergasse). You also can use the tram lines 1, 2, J and D (Station Oper (opera house), the university can be reached by the subway called Opernpassage.
If you arrive by train at Westbahnhof (trains from Germany, Switzerland, etc.) take unground line U3 to Volkstheater (3 Stations) and from there take line U2 to Karlsplatz (2 Stations). If you arrive by train at Südbahnhof (trains from Italy) take underground line U1 at Südtirolerplatz and go to Taubstummengasse (1 Station).
tickets are available from ticket machines in underground stations. The ticket machines take coins and a 100,- shilling note. There are tickets for one trip, 4 trips, 8 trips, one day, 3 continuos days and 8 different days. Multi trip and multiday tickets are transferable and can be used by more than one person. The hotels, the university and the workshop location are all within five minute walk. It is not necessary to use public transport during the workshop.
If you arrive by plane, take the bus directly in front of the arrival building to the City Air Terminal (Hilton Hotel). The fare is ATS 70,--. The bus leaves every twenty minutes (at xx.10, xx.30 and xx.50). From the city air terminal take underground U4 to Karlsplatz (2 Stations). If you have a lot of luggage, you can take a taxi from city air terminal to the university or hotel. Don't take a taxi directly from the airport (the charge is more than ATS 400,--). An alternative is a limousine with driver which takes you to any point in Vienna with a fixed fare of ATS 270,--. You must order it at least on day before your arrival at (++43 1) 44444, the name of the company is C&K. The driver awaits you directly after custom control.
