Social Events
Wednesday afternoon, the traditional day of the working group's excursion. Our excursion will start at 12:45 at Hotel Krainerhütte leading us first to Seegrotte Hinterbrühl and then to Cistercienserabtei Heiligenkreuz. At both sites we will enjoy a guided tour, before we are going back to Baden, where a tour guide will be waiting for us to show us some of the attractions and highlights of Baden. Afterwards, we will go to Weinbau Ramberger, a typical Heurigen taverne in Baden, which looks back to a history of more than 500 years, to relax from the excursion and to enjoy a typical Austrian Heurigen dinner. In fact, it was in 1489, three years before Christopher Columbus set sail to discover what later became known as the New World, that a Peter Ram(s)berger is mentioned in official documents of Baden as a wine maker in Baden. This means that the taverne is now for more than 500 years in family ownership.
The time schedule is roughly as follows:
Thursday evening, time for the traditional Conference Dinner. The staff of Restaurant "Rosenkavalier" in Schloß Weikersdorf is awaiting us to serve some of their specialties. The restaurant has been awarded two toques by the Guide Millau.
For Early Birds: Celebrating New Year's Eve
Those who are going to arrive early in Vienna, i.e., on or before
December 31st, might be interested in the events organized as part of
the so-called Silvesterpfad.
In the afternoon and evening of December 31st, the turn of the year will be celebrated with lots of open air events in the old town of Vienna. Points of interest include the square of the City Hall, the Kärntner Str., and Graben, the latter two are adjacent to the Stephan's Cathedral, the Kohlmarkt, which is adjacent to the Graben, and many other places in the old town area. It starts at 2 pm in the afternoon and lasts at least until 2 am the next morning. Stroll around and enjoy.
A special highlight of the "Silvesterpfad": Mozart's Fledermaus (Bat). The performance of the Staatsoper will be brought to you on a huge screen starting at 07:30 pm! If you didn't get tickets for the Staatsoper, be on time at the Herbert-von-Karajan Platz, which is to the right hand side of the Staatsoper, to enjoy Mozart's Fledermaus (Bat) on the huge screen.
At midnight the sky over the old town will be illuminated by a breathtaking fireworks display to welcome 2005!
