• Riding ÖBB - Fast and Efficient
  Vienna can easily be reached by public transport. Trains are departing at Baden Station and are running at least every 30 minutes. There is no need to change the train anywhere. Depending on the connection the journey from Baden to Vienna takes 22 minutes (minimum) to 43 minutes (maximum). The final destination of all trains in Vienna is either the stop Wien Südtiroler Platz or Wien Südbahnhof, the latter one of the three major stations in Vienna. At Wien Südtiroler Platz you have direct access to the metro network of Vienna (line U1), at Wien Südbahnhof you have immediate access to the streetcar network (line D). Both networks ensure that you have easy and fast access to all major attractions within Vienna. You can also walk from Wien Südbahnhof to Wien Südtiroler Platz to continue your travel by metro. It's a 5 minutes walk. The following links provide an overview of typical connections between Baden and Vienna (valid for Thursday, 08/26/04). As you will see, there are even more connections as mentioned above. Tickets for the train can be purchased in advance on-line or from vending machines at the station. A single-ticket for adults costs 4.50 EUR. (See also the tip on this page, which can save you 1.50 EUR, if you have a ticket which is valid within the city limits of Vienna).

  Ticket Information: You will find vending machines of ÖBB and VOR/Wiener Linien. VOR means Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR). You can purchase your ticket from each of them. There is no difference in the ticket price, but in the procedure. If you are at a vending machine of ÖBB, select "National ticket with selection of destination" and "Wien" as your destination. Then follow the directions to buy your ticket. If you are at a vending machine of VOR/Wiener Linien, select "VOR ticket with selection of destination" and "Wien" as your destination. As above, follow the instructions to purchase your ticket. Alternatively, you might select "VOR stripe ticket". There are stripe tickets with 4 and 8 stripes costing 6 EUR and 12 EUR, respectively. Hence, each stripe is worth 1.50 EUR. In order to go to from Baden to Vienna or vice versa you have to cancel 3 stripes before entering the train. Note: whatever ticket you buy, it must be canceled before entering the train. Except for the stripe tickets there is an option when buying the ticket to cancel it automatically. If in doubt if your ticket was automatically canceled, cancel it. Riding without a valid ticket costs a penalty of around 60 EUR.

• Riding Badener Bahn - A Scenic Option
  The Badener Bahn offers a scenic alternative for travelling from Baden to Vienna and back. The final stops of the Badener Bahn in Baden and in Vienna are Baden Josefsplatz in Baden and the worldfamous State Opera House in Vienna, respectively, the latter one only a 5 minutes walk away from the possibly even more famous Stephan's Cathredal. On its one hour journey from Baden to Vienna the Badener Bahn passes some of the most well-known and picturesque "Heurigen" villages of this area south of Vienna, which is stamped by its wineyards.   In addition to Badener Bahn, the Wiener Lokalbahnen AG also operates a bus service connecting Baden and Vienna and a bus network within Baden. Timetables of these services can be down-loaded as pdf-files from the homepage of Wiener Lokalbahnen AG.

• ...Vienna: Riding Wiener Linien
  Wiener Linien is the major provider of public transport services within Vienna. Wiener Linien operates the Vienna metro, streetcar and bus network. Tickets of Wiener Linien are valid on all these means of transportation, and, within the city limits of Vienna, also onboard trains of the ÖBB (excluding long-distance high-speed trains). Tickets for Wiener Linien can be purchased from vending machines located at railway stations, metro stops, and onboard of streetcars (only in the first of usually two coaches). Single-tickets are also sold by the drivers of busses, while the vending machines offer the full range of tickets offered by Wiener Linien.

In front of the Hotel Krainerhütte is a bus stop. It is served by busses of Postbus AG. Busses towards Baden Krankenhaus go to town and pass the stops Baden Josefsplatz and Baden Station, where you have access to the Badener Bahn and the trains of ÖBB towards Vienna, respectively (see above). The bus stop Baden Josefsplatz provides also easy access to the pedestrian zone of Baden. It's the ideal stop for starting to explore the many attractions and highlights of Baden.
