HI GARY <[Gary] GARY-S> Better - Jack of BCIT ?? <[Gary] GARY-S> Think you're up to interlacing yet, Jack ? <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> Yes it is I <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> Interlacing? <[Gary] GARY-S> Milt is involved in Forth on a more practical level <[Milton] M.FABERT> oh oh, gotta go, kid just woke up. <[Milton] M.FABERT> has left. <[Gary] GARY-S> Just us jack - so I will explain <[Gary] GARY-S> Interlacing is the 'everyone typing at once' that drove you <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> so is here. <[Gary] GARY-S> The reason we do that on informal evenings is to permit as much messaging... <[Gary] GARY-S> as possible, but admittedly it is tough to get use to <[Gary] GARY-S> Dave - next column is ???? <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> sorry, I'm using Qmodem and was trying to change my settings. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Gary. Second article is an implementation of pascal style records...right down to allowing easy variant records. <[Gary] GARY-S> ooo, nice <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> And its 80% done. I'm going to not have to rush at a dead line. The r=writing is also *much* better. <[Gary] GARY-S> did you get the last one in on time <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Yep. It got in on time. I'm not all the fond of the writing. It felt rushed and hodge podge. But its getting better. is here. <[Gary] GARY-S> Trust me - there is always something you wish you could rewrite <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Yep. <[Gary] GARY-S> how's the kid milt ? <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> I am going for supper, will check back in 30 min or so. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Cannon Cat is Forth right? <[Jack of BCIT] J.BROWN11> has left. <[milton] M.FABERT> she has more ways of putting of going to sleep than i .... <[milton] M.FABERT> have of putting off documenting. <[Gary] GARY-S> Milt - I was trying to get you to introduce your activities to Jack <[Gary] GARY-S> want to now ? <[Gary] GARY-S> forget it - Jack is gone <[milton] M.FABERT> Among others things I'm using the Harris RTx for a NASA project <[milton] M.FABERT> too late. <[Gary] GARY-S> sorry - I enjoy it myself <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Gary...is the Cat done in Forth? If so, how do you get to the Forth layer? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Milt...any forth on Magellan? <[milton] M.FABERT> I have know idea. <[Gary] GARY-S> sure would be a natural <[milton] M.FABERT> but Johns Hopkins U. has been <[Gary] GARY-S> isn't that what the APL FRISC chip was developed for ? <[milton] M.FABERT> using forth for NASA projects. <[Gary] GARY-S> great minds, milt <[Gary] GARY-S> :-) <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Oh gary. The implementation also allows nested variant records. <[Gary] GARY-S> Do you deal with John hayes or Marty Fraeman ? <[Gary] GARY-S> what was your question on 'CAT' about Dave <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Is it done in Forth. If so, can you get access to the Forth layer. If so, how? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> The Cannon Cat. I thought its software was Forth. <[Gary] GARY-S> It is <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Can you get access to the Forth layer, or is it a sealed system? is here. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Ho Jax <[Gary] GARY-S> The last I heard the inner interpreter was hidden and any evidence of a Forth heritage was also <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> hi all <[milton] M.FABERT> EXcuse my ignorance, what is the Cannon CAt? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Oh well. I saw one used today, and if I could have used Forth with it. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> dedicated word processor <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> cheap, programmed in Forth. <[milton] M.FABERT> oh <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> A vertical system. Essenstially a dedicated word processor with telcom and spreadsheet capabilities. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> But not Forth programmable apparently. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> SEAL <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> (So whats it good for then) <[Gary] GARY-S> like I said, Forth is hidden from view, though <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> They could have at least left a backdoor for us. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> topic for tonite was what to do to encourage people to participate? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Free online time? <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> services on line. <[Gary] GARY-S> Just a reminder VP-Planner+ does not shun their Forth ancestory and they (the craetors) will be here May 11 - MARK YOUR CALENDARS !!!! <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> ANYBODY GET JFAR V,ii YET ?????????????????????????????????? ?????????? <[Gary] GARY-S> Hell NO ! <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> Somebody posted on Usenet ... <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> JFAR V, ii. I saw that in February. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> asking for Larry's address. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> Ok, D.W., where is it? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Larry had bunches. See what happens when you don't go to conferences. :-) <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> I WENT to a conference. in 1987 !!! paid my subscription there. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> FORSLEY I WANT MY DAMN MAGAZINE. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Well you didn't go to the right ones. :-). I don't know. They had just come back from the printers and "were going to be right in the mail" <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> ( have i expressed myself clearly). <[Gary] GARY-S> Can this not be brought up at the FIG officer's meeting ? <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> Why? <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> What does FIG have to do with JFAR? <[milton] M.FABERT> Whats the theme this issue in JFAR? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> I *feel* like an eclectic hacker tonite. Fastfood wine and fresh fruit. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Late. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> probably "desktop publishing in Forth" >>> :-) <[Gary] GARY-S> I realize they have zero control, but they might carry more clout than my bitching obviously has NOT <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> FIG has no business bitching JFAR. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> But the SUBSCRIBERS do. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> bitch bitch bitch! <[Gary] GARY-S> What is Betts up to - do you know, Jax ? <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> Yes. <[Gary] GARY-S> so tell <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> no tell. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> go work for him and find out. <[milton] M.FABERT> Maybe no one is applying much research to forth, jax. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> right, uncle milty! <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> anyway .. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> he has announced the contents of V,ii and V,iii ... <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Hey...I may get a new "primary" job soon. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Still Unix though. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> the sumbeech just wont cough up for postage! <[Gary] GARY-S> doin what dave <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> I BUHLEEV they are all printed. <[milton] M.FABERT> Larry is afraid he'll lose his job if cold fusion works. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> There is a job opening in Austin for a NeXT administrator on a mid-sized NeXT network. <[milton] M.FABERT> so he's saving stamps. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> If cold fusion works, larry must have fused to his chair. <[milton] M.FABERT> what was wrong with the previous administrator? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Nothing. They haven't gotten the cubes yet. <[Gary] GARY-S> Dave - that could be a VERY interesting job - you should jump on it if only for the experience <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> New post. I'm going to give it a shot. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> The problem is that competition will be fierce. Ah well, I can but try. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> good luck DHW <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> I've played with the NeXT. It is a gorgeous machine. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Thanks Jax. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> You c-programming traitorous wretch! :-) <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Hehehehhehehehehehehehehehehehh. I keep my Forth credentials on my brag sheet. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Alongside my Unix/C credentials. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> bring up Forth on NExT <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> jax is angling towards the SC32. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> No sooner said than done. NeXTs will run Sun-3 binaries out of the box, and Mitch Bradley has a 680x0 Forth for Unix. No problem. <[milton] M.FABERT> How bout a the SC32 as a coprocessor card on the NeXT? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Be interesting. Bet you'll see an i860 coprocessor first though. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> HARRIS has been calling around asking people if they can interview them about what they would wish to see in the 32-bit RTX <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> (yet another pretty technotoy) <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> You bet! <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> But RISC is obviously the wave of the Fyoocher, it fits into parallel more efficiently. <[Gary] GARY-S> What is that crock on the Well about show me x number in use before it's real ? <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> The SC32 is not Harvard, but it is RISC. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> Like I said, gary, on the Well ... <[milton] M.FABERT> more support for parrallel on the 32 RTX would be appreceated. <[jax] FIGCHAPTERS> If you say to me "C is better because more people use it" ..
