Huh? huh? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Yeah. Too bad you can't make it. <[Gary] GARY-S> almost exactly six weeks ago Jax ! <[Gary] GARY-S> Thanks for the offer anyway, Dave <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> (moves into the modern age) <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> You're welcome. Anyone else planning on coming to the conf. and needing crash space? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> I mean, I walked in late to that conf ... when did he say it was gonna be published? <[Kevin] APPERT> <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> I think they promised it for a few weeks ago. <[Gary] GARY-S> Jump in Kev - no rules tonite <[Kevin] APPERT> that was an oops, i bumped the keyboarf <[Kevin] APPERT> oops, board <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> right the first time, kev. <[Kevin] APPERT> :) <[Gary] GARY-S> The conf is 'ForthInPUb' and it is definitely there for the world to see <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> :) :) <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Gary...my GEnie bill this month ought to be impressive. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> aha. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> (for the FIG RT that is) <[Kevin] APPERT> < spent much of this week coding in BASIC. UGH!!!! <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> My condolensces. <[Gary] GARY-S> You haven't been on - why impressive ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> just wondering at what date i get to start my "crusdade" again, or give up and accept the refund. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Much downloading. <[Kevin] APPERT> the JFAR crusade, Jax? <[Gary] GARY-S> Can you use 2400 in Austin ? <[Kevin] APPERT> or som other <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Jawohl <[Kevin] APPERT> 2400 = twice the price? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Yes...I can...but I am not. Too much of a pain (I never can remember the 2400 baud node number) <[Gary] GARY-S> Jax - I think a crusade is (at least) in order <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> <- has new plaything <[Kevin] APPERT> what, Dave <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Amstrad PPC640. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> I'm all crusaded out ... besides, i *already* have the plague. <[Kevin] APPERT> well wash your hands after you play with it. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> went to see the doctor today, said "i'm feelin ok, just this persistent fever" ... <[Gary] GARY-S> Through Sears, dave ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> he took blood and said "How did you walk in here unaided?" <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> No. From Augusta Warehouse. Great price and fantastic service. <[Gary] GARY-S> un AID ed ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Not a bit of it. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Virused to the max. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> $769 for 640k, 2 3.5" 720k drives, 2400 badu internal, etc. .. <[Gary] GARY-S> Augusta - where is the ad ? Computer Shopper ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> three different kinds, they was all swimming around in me blood. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> 8Mhz 8086. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> No. PC Magazine, or PC World or something like that. <[Kevin] APPERT> 8086 or 8088? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> The Amstrad is the weird looking laptop...the one with the screen all the way on the left and a full sized AT keyboard (17"+) <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> 8086 <[Gary] GARY-S> I can get a Kaypro laptopper with 2 3.5" disks for about $600. - anyone know how good/bad they are ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> you can get an Amiga 500 for about that. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> why not buy a real computer? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Hmmnn. Old. They were from way back when. I don't know much else. <[Kevin] APPERT> when I was a boy, Kaypro only made one computer, and it would break your lap <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Because I know people with Amiga 500's who say that 512k is too little memory for an Amiga. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Besides, it's not a laptop. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> it comes with all sorts of expansion opportunities ... <[Gary] GARY-S> Jax - like it or not (not, I know) my needs are in the MS-DOS world <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> it's almost a laptop ... <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> and i had 512 on my 1000 for a year and a half. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> The old sob story about the MSDOS world doesn't hold water anymore. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Even IBM is trying to escape from that albatross with OS/2 <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> It's just that Amiga suceeded in 1985 in setting up a real multitasker. <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> I don't care about an "MS-DOS" world. This machine does what I want it to, and the price is right. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> It just keeps getting better. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> At VESTA ... <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> we still sell 8088 boards and keep around an AT or two ... <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> but our development environment is the Amiga now. <[Gary] GARY-S> Do you run Unix on it ? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Not yet, but why not? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> <- downloaded F-PC last night. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Later, when we have more people that will be fun. <[Kevin] APPERT> how do you like it? <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> UNIX is a dinosaur, anyway. <[Kevin] APPERT> F-PC, Dave? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> Haven't had time to take more than a cursory look at it. But I like what I see. <[Gary] GARY-S> Amiga is multi-tasking. Is it multi-user/multi-tasking ? <[Kevin] APPERT> did you get all the utilities? <[Kevin] APPERT> add-ons? <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> The whole thing (source, help files, docs, executable, etc) takes 3 720ks. <[Kevin] APPERT> accessories? <[Gary] GARY-S> Dave - you must have all the SEQ files <[Dave] DHWEINSTEIN> If it was in GEnie Files 1373-1378 I have it. <[jax@well] FIGCHAPTERS> Just multitasking. Can be used somewhat multiuser, but the opsystem is designed for single-user full pre-emptive multitasking
