Task Description

Space based computing is an alternative in comparison to the traditional message oriented approach. eXtensible Virtual Shared Memory (XVSM) follows this paradigm and conjuncts the positive of other Virtual Shared Memory (VSM) implementations like Corso or Java Spaces. It provides the possibility to communicate over a common shared virtual space. The aim of this work is, to develop an API for the windows platform, which provides the concept of a virtual shared memory. The API programming language is C#. So, the .Net developer will to get a middleware to facilitate to write distributed application in an easy way. It can be an alternative to other message oriented middleware services, like Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), which provide communication between applications, in one machine or across multiple machines connected by a network, too. The API provides write and read access to arbitrary objects, which are shared in the space. The access to these objects happens by space containers, which provide their own specific kind of access. Thereby transactional security will guaranteed. Beyond notifications can used to indicate changes of space object. Additionally recoverability of processes and space object are provided by the API and the underlying XVSM-Kernel. The API is open and configurable, for the possibility of extension. So the API can be the base for arbitrary complex distributed application.
