Persistency component for a virtual shared memory system

Diploma Thesis, TU-Vienna, 2005

Abstract

The availability of a persistency layer in a distributed shared memory management middleware is a prerequisite to provide reliable service. When an error condition within the system leads to a failure of a single component or the whole system, the former object states need to be recoverable once the system continues the service.

This thesis tries to analyze the requirements of the persistency layer and to design a persistency component for an object management framework which keeps the component architecture independent of the actual storage solution, under the aspect of the integration of this component into a higher, grid-based service. A reference implementation is based on the storage of data in an RDBMS.

The design and implementation of this component are based on the XVSM (for Extensible Virtual Shared Memory) middleware which provides distributed access to shared objects via the state-of-the-art Space Based Computing paradigm.
