Conflict detection and conflict resolution for asynchronous database replication
Diploma Thesis, TU-Vienna, 2005
Abstract
In distributed IT-systems where relational databases play an important role, asynchronous replication is an issue. Nowadays solutions are bound to certain restrictions, especially there are limitations in the area of conflict resolution which is an inherent part of asynchronous replication.
The aim of this diploma thesis is to provide a method for conflict detection and conflict resolution. As an introduction, I examine three database products and their built-in functionality for conflict detection and conflict resolution. Then I categorize replication conflicts in relational databases, which is the basis for the detection of replication conflicts. I continue with providing methods for conflict resolution. Furthermore, I explain data transformation in the context of heterogeneous systems.
The output of this diploma thesis contributes to the implementation of the GONG software, which is based on the middleware CORSO (space based computing) and which implements asynchronous replication between heterogeneous databases.
