A service overlay network for telematic applications

Diploma Thesis, TU-Vienna, 2009

Abstract

A numerous amount of data to be processed arises in application areas such as intelligent transportation and urban mobility. A service platform crafted for these demands has to enable pervasive gathering, processing and provisioning of content. Due to the widespread distribution of data access points, an architectural solution based on peer to peer systems seems natural. Furthermore, to support large datasets of short lived, locality aware data while providing equitable dependability, an architecture that unifies the flexibility and dependability of the peer to peer based distributed hash table (DHT) approach with the query expressiveness and coordination support of the tuple space based computing paradigm may enable complex query processing and fault tolerance. This thesis examines the feasibility of such a network service overlay by implementing and measuring a prototype, using state of the art software components publicly available.
