Project Description
The toll business experiences a steady growth, continously new systems emerge (e.g. discussion about launching a toll charge for passenger cars in Germany) and existing systems are extended or technically modernized.
Currently, toll system technologies are usually expensive expert systems with only a few providers all over the world. The rapid evolution of smart phones and data management technologies has only be partially adopted by the conservative toll industry, by now.
In the context of the research project SMART Maut it will be investigated, whether and how state of the art smart phone technologies are suitable for the extension or replacement of traditional toll technologies. The open-source space-based middleware systems, developed at our institute shall serve as a standardized platform to enable the integration of different technologies.
