Berlin, 1/2 and 2/3 May:

What drove us to stop over in Berlin was Hildegard Bekic, architect, one of the seven Bekic children, same age as Nikolaj, our son: 40 years. We had not seen her for years on account of her not living in Austria. Now we stayed two nights, saw her and her beau Sat., dinner at rest. Borchardt, Französische Straße 47, near Gendarmenmarkt, and Sunday morning 10-14 when Hildegard met us at our hotel with her two wonderful children: Ida and Sol. We walked to Potsdamer Platz, past Marlene Dietrich Platz, and had lunch at the Mariott Hotel brasserie. Rudolf Bekic joined us there: he was en route from Riga to Munich !

Sunday evening we went to Wolfgang and Soula's apartment (Wolfgang Reisig is professor at Humboldt Univ.) on Cosima Platz, lovely place, spectacular 5th floor, ``under the roof'', two level apartment. Had some drinks and went out to dine. A great evening. And a fitting ``symbol'' of 5 weeks of travel.
