The wind blowing through the passage is a little cool, and you feel chilly until Prometheus and Taufee both pull out their winter blankets. You all manage to get some shelter from the breeze and settle down to sleep. Brevan wakes Prometheus after what he thinks is a few hours and the watch changes. Apart from that nothing out of the ordinary happens while you are asleep. Brevan and Prometheus both take turns to do this. It's hard to tell just how long you are all asleep for, but it you go by the oil in the lantern, you must have been asleep for about 15 or 16 hours! You all feel rejuvenated, and Te-rasti, Taufee and Elhmo all take the time to read their spellbooks or pray to their deities. Taufee and Junior take the opportunity now to try to heal some of the ailments of the party. Junior first heals himself. Surprisingly, he manages to completely heal all of his wounds! The prayer to Boccob must be a complex one however, since Junior was in a deep trance for about an hour before coming out healed. Taufee first heals Elhmo (8 points healed!) then Brevan (only 3 :-( ). Both men are still wounded, but Elhmo looks to be close to good shape. Junior finishes the healing of Brevan, and the party now stands as follows : Prometheus - Uninjured Te-rasti - Moderately injured Taufee - Lightly injured Brevan - Uninjured Elhmo - lightly injured Torgan - Very lightly injured Junior - Uninjured Junior looks quite tired after his healing efforts, though Taufee still looks fine. She casts her _create_water_ spell, and cups her hands. Cool, fresh water pours out of her hands in a steady stream, and you fill up all of the waterskins that you have. After that you each drink from the magical flow of water, and the rest of the spell is left to spill on the ground. You all feel invigorated, if hungry. At least your thirst is quenched, and you can now get on with the task of continuing down this passage. The passage continues for another hour or so. You begin to wonder if there is any end to this tunnel. Eventually however, you come to the end. The passage ends in a huge black disk which spans the entire passage. About 10 feet before the end there is another opening into a room similar to the one that you entered the tunnel from. The difference is that this room has a very ornate design on the floor. There is a triangle inscribed inside two circles. The space between the two circles is filled with mystic runes. Lying face down in the triangle is a skeleton dressed in rotten blue robes. One of the walls is badly scorched and beneath it is a pile of blackened stone. The designs in the floor are all silvery, the same as the last room. Closer inspection of the huge black disk determines that it is very solid. It looks to be quite sturdy too, and may be hard to break. There is a door in the North west wall of the Hexagonal room. The room is to the North of the passage. Te-rasti is very interested in what the skeleton is carrying and tries to get a closer look. Leaning over the circle inscribed in the ground to get a little closer, he cranes his neck to try to see more detail. Prometheus looks a little worried that Te-rasti should be getting this close. "Come away from there, Te-rasti!" he cries and moves over to pull the Elf back. Unfortunately he unbalances the poor man, and Te-rasti's foot lands on a section of the circle. Immediately a loud voice booms out around you. It is a very peculiar accent, and an old form of the common tongue. "Beware, beware, lest greed for plunder, the earthen ones chains doth burst asunder." The room is as silent then as before. Te-rasti's foot is already out of the circle. Nothing else seems to happen. You all stand there for what seems like an eternity, expecting to be horribly killed, but the room remains the same as you found it. It is only now that you notice that viewing the passage from the room makes it look twice as big, just like viewing it from the other room that you entered the passage from. Closer inspection of the black disk reveals nothing. Elhmo decides to try out his theory of it being an illusion by banging it hard with his spear. Nothing happens. [Assuming that you try out the door] The passage on the other side of the door is identical to the one that lead to the previous room. The passage leads west for a short way and then turns south. The passage then continues down some stairs, the same as before, and continues underneath the passage you have walked along for so long. The thin passage you now follow opens up after about 40 feet into another circular room, with a large rod in the center and a glowing gem encased in the center of the rod., The room is again bathed in a glowing white light. There are exits to the North (where you just came from), the South and the East. The South passage extends past your light, but the east passage almost immediately begins in some stairs leading upward, apparently for about 10 - 15 feet before ending in a door. Curiosity getting the better of him, he moves in carefully to the skeleton in the middle of the circle. The rest of the party cringes, expecting the worst. Te-rasti finds a few things of interest on the body of the skeleton. These are - A scroll inside a case. The scroll contains numerous mystic runes, obviously those of a mage. - A ring that appears unusually light. - The wand that you saw previously. There is one word inscribed upon it, "Abrasee". Taufee turns to these and confirms that all of these are magical. Moving down the passage, Taufee seems a little more relaxed. She asks the rest of you to pull out the items that have been collected, and looks at them in turn. - The dagger you picked up in the jungle with the mouth inscribed on the hilt is not magical. - The gem from the first rod room no longer radiates magic. - The potion of invisibility and dust of appearance that you found on the first corpse obviously radiate magic. - The incense radiates no magic. As you go into the glowing rod room, Taufee confirms that the gem radiates magic here too. You all head up the stairs that lead to the door to the east of the rod room. On opening the door you find a large room (about 30 feet long by 20 feet wide, the door is on one of the 20' sides). The room contains broken and smashed beds, tables, chairs, cupboards, crockery and glass. One large metal cupboard on the south wall appears undamaged. It is also firmly attached to the wall. There is another door in the east wall. Many objects can be sold latter for something your truly desire. For example if a rune covered Long sword were up for bid that was determined to be magical, Junior would bid on the object just because it's worth something. Maybe only 100 gp to him but it should have a much higher value to others in the group. Likewise if a scroll with only 1 magic user spell on it is worth something to Junior even if he can't use it. But it should be worth a lot more to a mage. If you don't bid what you think it's worth then you risk losing it to someone who can't use it and then pay their price to use it. Did you miss me?] With all the talk of distribution of treasure, you all seem to have little interest in the room surrounding you :-). Nevertheless, you do look around and see what your current situation is. The cupboard is firmly attached to the wall. It is also locked. Opening the door, Brevan sees before him a longish corridor, which branches off in a crossroads about 30 feet from the door. The other end of the passage cannot be seen due to lighting restrictions. Advancing up the corridor, you find that the passage in front of you (the east passage from the crossroad) goes another 30 feet and ends in a door. Both the North and South passages are only 10 feet long, and also end in doors. [If you wanted to do anything with the metal cupboard please tell me. I will press on for now]. After opening one of the doors and walking around for a while you find the following situation (which I will map to make life easier). [Note : The sections (A, B, and C) will be described in seperate sections below the map. Filling the centre of the western wall is a large black disk (presumably the one you have seen from the other side). In front of it a flight of dark steps leads up to a sparkling glass hoop. The hoop is 10 feet in diameter and stands upright and parallel to the circle. A bright blue flame burns upon a silver platform on the right side of the hoop. A silver cup glints opposite it. The frescoes on the north and south walls are mirror images of each other and depict a city adjacent to a mountain range. The mountains are at the eastern end of the room and the city at the west. The ceiling shows the sky and a depiction of the sun is the source of the illumination. (B) : The walls of the passage are covered with flaking plaster. Piles of it lie here and there on the blue marble floor. The frescoes draw your attention to the walls. They depict people moving in orderly lines. Those in the southern branch and on the southern wall are moving towards the blocked passage, while those in the northern branch are moving away from the blocked section into a large chamber where they ascend a flight of steps. At the top, a figure with outstretched arms walks through a hoop with a blue flame and a silver cup set on either side. (C) : A bright light shines from a depiction of the sun. It illuminates this large chamber but fails to touch a large black shadow at the far end. You can see that this 'shadow' is another black disk. In front of the disk, a flight of dark steps leads up to a dazzling glass hoop, 10 feet in diameter. Elsewhere, decaying frescoes adorn the walls. On the north and south walls a city lies at the foot of a range of mountains. The mountains are at the western end of the room and the city at the east. There is no flame or cup on this platform. My problem was not in overestimating my future wealth, but underestimating it. There's really no reason not to bid 10 K for everything, because we all know after this is done it's all over for Taufee & co... So who's going to need money after we're back? I don't know if we want to go through all that again. Any other suggestions? the only way I think this will work is if we know what the objects would sell for on the common market in this world. And we don't know that. What does a +1 Long sword sell for? What does a +2 Long sword sell for? What does a +1 Dagger sell for? What does a +2 Dagger sell for? What range do wands sell for? Magic missile, Staff of power? What about potions. If we use the DM guide and transpose the XP value for the object into gold sale price we'd have a +1 Long sword sells for 400 a +2 Long sword sell for 800 a +1 Dagger sells for 500 a +2 Dagger sells for? 1000 a Wand of magic missiles 4000 a staff of power 15,000 Wands average value would be around 6000 which is where Te-rasti's bid is Potions average around 500 gold Rings normally are 1000, a few 2000, and very rarely upto 5000 They average around 1500 Protection Scrolls average 1500, I'd say scroll with spell are 100 gold/level So a 1st level scroll would be worth 100 on the open market. The bids 1) A scroll inside a case. The scroll contains numerous mystic runes, obviously those of a mage. Te-rasti 3000 thinking there were at least 30 spell levels on the scroll (a little out of line? or really wanted it!) Taufee 350 equal to a 3-4 the level spell or 3-4 first level spells Brevan 100 Keeping people fair Junior 100 Keeping people fair Elhmo 50 Under bid 2) A ring that appears unusually light. Taufee 2500 Fair bid really wants it Junior 1500 Fair bid and willing to pay market value Brevan 350 Under bid 3) The wand that you saw previously. There is one word inscribed upon it, "Abrasee". Te-Rasti 6000 Fair bid but counting on a good wand Junior 2000 Fair bid but counting on an average wand (mineral detection?) Taufee 1500 Fair bid Brevan 200 Under bid 4) The dagger you picked up in the jungle with the mouth inscribed on the hilt is not magical. Junior 50 Don't know here but It had historical value. really wanted it Brevan 20 Probably fair it did have a gem in it 5) The gem from the first rod room no longer radiates magic. Elhmo 50 Fair nobody else wanted it :( 6) The potion of invisibility 7 doses left Junior 250 Underbid but no one else wanted it 7) The dust of appearance 1 packet left Junior 100 Between 5-50 containers are usual found for a value of 1000 Brevan 45 Fair price 8) Braziers Brevan 40 Whatever the market will bear, no one else wanted it Give me suggestions as to how to run it again or some other method. I've been swamped with work] Just looking over the distribution method suggested by Junior... Each person gets an equal share of of treasure minus what their items are worth. Where does that 'payment' go? As I see it so far, you are chucking out 11,990 gold! My suggestion : When the goodies come out, add up their total value and add in the total value for the items (based on highest bid). Each person gets an equal value share of the total treasure, meaning that those who didn't get items get more gold (the gold that was spent on the items ends up with these people. Eg : Karrak and Anrik are adventuring together. Karrak bids for items worth 200 gold and Anrik bids for items worth 300 gold. They end up with treasure totalling 1000 gold. 1000 plus the bids of 500 = 1500. Thus each person gets a 750 share. Karrak gets his 200 items plus 550 gold. Anrik gets his 300 items plus 450 gold. Both add up to 750 each. All of the gold is kept. This is only a minor change to Juniors method, but I thought that it was worth pointing out. (I don't know what's going to happen _if_ there isn't enough treasure to support the bids. Hopefully that won't be a problem.) It is a needle, poised inside the lock, a small matter to remove. Inside the cabinet you find : - an embroidered crimson cloak in good repair - five tattered crimson cloaks, six tattered blue robes and numerous rotted leather belts and footwear - a rotted leather bag containing three different gems - a warhammer - a leather bound book which looks very old - 60 feet of old rope - un unlocked metal box containing lots of old coins (500 g.p. worth) and a small ornamental electrum mace On the top shelf are 10 crystal flasks containing some liquid. They are all of exceptional craftsmanship and all bear an inscription of an enamelled red flame burning on an inlaid silver base. Back in the main area, you have decided to come into the north room, with the hoop that has the flame and cup next to it. You throw a small rock through the glass hoop, and it just comes out the other end of the hoop without any other effect.
