Te-rasti, still wounded, picks up his daggers and cleans then as best as he can. Taufee, still dizzy from the blows that she recieved during the fight, has to be guided along gently, the task taken by the noble Brevan. Brevan is not without his own wounds, but he shrugs them off at the moment to help out Taufee. Elhmo is still staring at his spear, wondering why it did nothing to abate the raging attack of the Hydra. The spear certainly _seems_ to be sharp, and it _did_ enter the Hydra's body, so what gives??? Torgan looks about on the ground, searching for anything that may be of 'interest'. He has a minor wound, but is in fairly good shape. Junior approaches the dead beast and looks over it carefully. "Hmmm, a most interesting specimen. It's a pity that I don't have enough glass jars to preserve it in. Oh well, I guess I'll just take notes on it. I guess we know what all of the bones in this area are from now..." You continue travelling for the rest of the day. At about midafternoon, several hours before dusk, the valley you have been travelling along ends abruptly at a mass of hardened lava. A waterfall drops down 500 feet from a gulley above and roars into a pool at the base of the rock face. Large irregular steps lead up the lava next to the falls. (Prometheus look about the pool anxiously, but alas, there are no pebbles to skip across the pool :-( ) The steps are roughly 2 feet high each, and lead up several hundred feet to the whatever is above. The only one of you who is not wounded at the moment is Prometheus. He still appreciates the relaxation derived from this slightly warm pool of water. It would be nice if it were cooler, but this is a luxury that is all but forgotten to you all. Eventually you dry off and begin the long ascent up the stairs. The climb is particularly taxing on Junior and Elhmo who are a little smaller of stature than the rest of you. Eventually you reach the top and stop to take in your surroundings. The stream that the waterfall comes from runs down a steep, narrow gully. The top of the waterfall provides a magnificent view of the boggy canyon that you have been travelling up and of the mountains that flank it. The large volcanic mountain that rumbled you a few days ago is still the one that you have been skirting around. In the distance you can make out what you think might just be the edges of the forest that you travelled so far through to get here. The air up here is still warm, and evening is approaching. Off to the right of the steps is a cave mouth. There are no other visible exits from this area apart from the stairs, and the steep gully that carries the swiftly flowing water of the stream. A heavy iron door fills the passageway ahead. The iron door is heavy, and the hinges are very stiff. It takes a lot of effort for both Prometheus and Brevan to open the door. The rest of you try to help out a little, and the door finally moves. You slip into the room beyond. This room might once have been well furnished but time has taken its toll. As you watch, > > the gem pulsates and the white light washes over you and the room. > > "Wow, look at that! I wonder if it would be OK to touch it? I suggest > we first look for secret doors and such, though. There must be a way out of > here, and I hope it's not via that gem..." > Sorry, I should have stated this instead of just putting it on the map where it's not so obvious. There are passages running out of the north and south ends of the room. Both passages disappear off into the distance, though you can't really see that far because of the light that the gem is shining off the walls etc. Michael Wright wright@latcs1.lat.oz.au From forst@cs.purdue.edu Mon Aug 16 15:15:53 1993 Received: from interbase8.cs.purdue.edu by arthur.cs.purdue.edu (5.65c/PURDUE_CS-1.2) id ; Mon, 16 Aug 1993 08:14:23 -0500 Received: by interbase8.cs.purdue.edu (5.65c/PURDUE_CS-1.2) id ; Mon, 16 Aug 1993 08:14:23 -0500 Date: Mon, 16 Aug 1993 08:14:23 -0500 From: forst@cs.purdue.edu (Alexander Forst) Message-Id: <199308161314.AA07117@interbase8.cs.purdue.edu> To: wright@latcs1.lat.oz.au Subject: ATG: can be of no help :-( Cc: alex Status: OR Hi Michael, Sorry, I think I can be of no help. I am currently working at Purdue university and didn't bring "All That Glitters" with me. :-) I am still following all mails, unfortunately I don't remember the paintings. I know of following paintings: The passage through the mountain at the ends of the passage: the two cities, Windgate and ? with people coming to and from the stairs to the black stone If the paintings are not in the room description, I don't know. There were only cutouts for the maps and the sideview of the passage.
